I’m a Toyota expert… many drivers overlook car button that instantly improves handling in the winter | The Sun

A TOYOTA expert has revealed an intriguing "Snow button" that is often overlooked by drivers

Motors specialist Steven Welch took to his YouTube channel to demonstrate what the genius feature can do to your vehicle and how it can transform a car's handling in bad conditions.

Often found in automatic, all-wheel drive Toyota models – such as the Highlander – the "Snow button" can be located in the central console of the Japanese brand.

Steven begins by pointing to an often-seen snowflake icon that can flash up on your car's odometer behind the steering wheel.

This serves as a warning to drivers that roads could be slippery and only occurs when the temperature outside is very cold and road conditions could be icy.

He then points to a button marked "Snow" that's often placed next to the traction control and downhill assist control.

After pressing the button, Steven then shows how a green icon that reads "Snow" appears on the vehicle's odometer, before explaining what exactly the function does.

He says: "This is going to allow the car to start in second gear.

"Whenever you're in snow or in slippery conditions, it's better to start in second gear to limit the torque to the wheels – which reduces wheel-spin.

"In turm, you're less likely to lose control when you're trying to take off from a parked setting or a stop light."

Steven also explains that the function tightens the car's steering to help keep control of the car.

Essentially, the function is an added boost to drivers when conditions are treacherous.

He also explains that the button can be found in many other car brands and models – and in some cases it's known as a "Weather button".

This comes after Steven revealed the mysterious "Mood button" that can transform your car's interior.

The car fanatic demonstrates the feature in another video – showing how it can be used to regulate your motor's interior lighting.

Elsewhere, drivers have been warned of a new car insurance scam that can result in a hefty £50k bill.

The scam specifically targets drivers who attempt to make an insurance claim through Google.

But in the process of trying to find their company online, they are bombarded with misleading ads paid for by unscrupulous firms which can trick victims into contacting them instead.
