Drivers making huge mistake when cleaning car with water – it could cost thousands | The Sun

DRIVERS are making a huge mistake which could cost them thousands when cleaning their car with a hose, an expert has warned.

Dave from Epic Automotive Detailing took to YouTube to explain how to avoid actually doing more harm than good while trying to buff up your motor.

One key error that he sees beginners make is misusing pressure washers while scrubbing down cars.

Dave warned: "Holding a pressure washer way too close to the paintwork…I see this happen all the time.

"It's no good having the right chemicals or the right tools if you're not going to do the job right…it's a minefield."

Standing too close can cause significant damage to your car's paintwork, which can be a costly repair.

According to Webuyanycar, a full respray can cost anywhere between £2,700 and a whopping £5,000.

As such it's vital that drivers make sure to stand well back when using pressure washers to avoid ripping the paint off their cars.

Dave recommended actually getting a more powerful washer in order to make sure you can keep a safe distance while still busting tough dirt and grime.

He urged: "You're way better off having something with more bar pressure, at least then you can stand back a bit and get a little bit of power."

He also advised putting on some form of paint protection product, which are available for as little as £1.50 online, after a thorough wash and dry.
